When my friend visited me in Japan we traveled a lot and walked a lot every day. Since I really like my bed for relaxing I asked her that why there are no cafés where you can lay down instead of just sit? A quick researched showed: There are already cafés like that in Japan! So we found the Mahika Mano Hammock Cafe in Kichijoji and decided to go there.
First we had to wait a little bit outside, then were called inside and one of the waiters explained the rules to us. Then we took off our shoes and were led to a table. Actually, we were a bit disappointed at first, since we came to sit in a hammock, not at a table. But it seemed that we were only seated there until a hammock became free. We had already received our food and drinks, but the waiter helped us carry our stuff to the counter, were we finally got to sit into our hammock.
I think we spent quite some time there sitting and swinging a little bit in our hammocks, since it was really comfortable. The good thing is that there is no time limit and you don’t have to pay by hour, like in some other theme cafes. The atmosphere in Japanese cafes is always kind of quiet, so we could enjoy our coffee and sweets (cake and parfait) in peace. The coffee and food is also very delicious.
I would definitely recommend trying this place if you are looking for a special and really relaxing cafe. The prices are a little bit more expensive than in usual cafes, cakes and coffee starting from 600 yen and soft drinks from 480 yen. But they also have a cheaper lunch time from 12-14pm where you can get a menu for 1100 yen including a small salad, vegetables, soup and a drink.
